Sketching the Wild Opening Reception

April 11 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Sci-Port Discovery Center, in partnership with the Shreveport Regional Arts Council (SRAC), invites the community to the opening reception of Sketching the Wild, a juried community art exhibition, on Saturday, April 11, at 5:30 PM at ArtSpace in downtown Shreveport. Following Sci-Port’s Bug Bazaar event earlier in the day, the evening will turn its focus to the artistic side of scientific observation, featuring nature-inspired works selected through an open call for artists of all ages and experience levels – from K-12 and college students to hobbyists and professional artists.

The exhibition was curated by Sci-Port’s Assistant Director Eric Sanders, with award selections juried by Coyote Peterson, star of Brave the Wilderness, alongside local artists Erica Branch, Emily Feazel, Alex Richardson, and KaDavien Baylor. Awards will be presented during the reception as guests experience the selected works and the connection between creativity, nature, and discovery.

Sketching the Wild complements Sci-Port’s temporary exhibition, Natural Histories: 400 Years of Scientific Illustration, which highlights the beauty, history, and impact of scientific illustration.

The opening reception is proudly sponsored by ANECA Federal Credit Union and is free and open to anyone interested in attending.

The exhibition will remain on display at ArtSpace April 11 – May 22, 2026
