Booking Field Trips
Weather predictions are only (somewhat) accurate up to 10 days.
Schedule Field Trips in a Flash
To schedule and receive school group rates and programming, groups must have 10 or more students, be considered an educational institution/organization, and submit the reservation form at least 2 weeks in advance. The reservation form can be obtained by emailing reservations@sciport.org.
Field Trip Information
- Teachers are encouraged to contact Sci-Port’s education staff to plan their field trip. Sci-Port experts will help select the right programs, maximize time, and make amazing connections between curriculum standards and permanent exhibit galleries email them at education@sciport.org.
- Program scheduling may be limited from March through May due to the high volume of visits we typically experience during that time. Please advise the reservations team if there is preferred programming for the group.
- Programs occur between 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
- Groups may arrive early and stay until the end of the day.
- Limited Admissions Assistance for 2024-25 field trips to Sci-Port Discovery Center will be available to schools who need it on a first-come, first-serve basis in 3 Northwest Louisiana Parishes (Bossier, Caddo, and DeSoto). To apply, you must first make your reservation and select a date for your visit by emailing reservations@sciport.org. The Reservations Manager will give you an online form to complete. When filling out the required information, please check the Admissions Assistance box and indicate your financial need. Once the completed form is received, it will be reviewed, and you will be contacted with a decision (usually 2-3 business days). A post visit educator’s survey will also be required including basic student demographic information. For questions, please contact grants@sciport.org. Admissions Assistance support is provided through Cooperative Endeavor Agreement ACT4 and a Verizon Community Grant.
- Contact us at least 3 days before your visit for changes in your group size of more than ten students.
Reservation Details
Please have the following information available when you contact Sci-Port for reservations.
- Contact information: Lead educator, school address, phone, fax, and email.
- Attendees: Grade level(s), number of students, number of teachers, and number of chaperones. Sci-Port requires a minimum of one chaperone for every 10 students to escort your students during their visit.
- Dates and times: Visit date, an alternate date, arrival time, and departure time.
- Program Choices: Review our Program Offerings and have your choices ready.
- Special needs: Please notify us of any special needs your students may have.
When You Arrive
- For safety, students can be dropped off in the circular drive near the parking lot between Sci-Port and the J. Bennett Johnston Waterway Regional Visitor Center of Clyde Fant Parkway near the railroad bridge. After student drop-off, buses may park in the lot between Sci-Port and the J. Bennett Johnston Waterway Regional Visitor Center. An additional drop-off point is available on Lake Street near our South entrance, with bus parking available in the lots off Lake Street (behind Sci-Port). - Have a final headcount of all attendees, including chaperones and teachers/school staff, ready for check-in.
- Combine money into one group payment and designate a representative to make that payment. Sci-Port accepts school checks, major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover) or cash. No envelopes with loose change, please.
