The 2019-20 school year is here and we are excited to welcome you back and I am personally excited to be back at the helm for the Education Department! After leaving in 2016, I completed my masters in Instructional Design and Instructional Design Technology and was recruited back in May of this year. I can’t tell you how grateful I am to be working with you all again!
This fall has some big changes coming – there will be a new gallery experience as well as a temporary holiday extravaganza exhibition!
The new gallery is called the Adventures of Intrigue which will replace the previous aging and dismantled Red River Gallery. This Adventures of Intrigue gallery’s purpose is to provide a unique educational experience to students and visitors. This new industry model brings this experience to a whole new level for learners of all ages and abilities. Educators and employers alike expect students in the 21st century to be proficient in critical thinking, collaboration, and problem solving. The easiest way to integrate this into educational experiences is through gamification – that is, framing curriculum with interactive play and instant feedback. This new model, having emerged from the entertainment industry, inherently facilities these skills in every adventure which can be changed every time you and your students visit it. It will also be aligned to Louisiana Student Standards as well as national frameworks to ensure educational experiences that are both developmentally appropriate and curriculum aligned.
The temporary holiday extravaganza exhibition is called Sno-Port and will open after your Thanksgiving break and run through the end of January. Snow-Port is designed to be a technological trip through a winter wonderland where students and visitors learn about the states of matter as they start as a drop of water and end up as a snowflake.
And, of course, we still have all of your favorites: the Space Dome Planetarium, Louisiana’s only IMAX Dome Theater, the AEP SWECPO Demonstration Theater, and the PoP Children’s Museum. All open and available to you and your students.
Thank you for your patronage and, as always, we look forward to serving you and your students this year!
