Pop Rockets Fly!

This past Friday October 15th Sci-Port educators went to McKinney Byrd Academy to engage students in our grant funded outreach program. During this lesson we taught middle schoolers about independent and dependent variables using the scientific method. We had the students design a fast-launching rocket using film canisters, Alka-Seltzer tablets and water. They described in depth their trial and errors using the steps of the scientific method, to channel their critical thinking and reasoning skills. It was a slightly messy but fun and educational hands-on activity! To learn more about the outreach programs we offer visit our outreach page on our website.
