Special Programs

In addition to programs listed in our Program Catalog, Sci-Port offers these unique programs that are suited for different grade levels or address particular subject matters. Call (318) 424-8660 to sign up! Plus, be sure to check back later for more special programs as new programs are added throughout the school year. We intend to offer special programming on themes including Brain Awareness and Health & Fitness, and we will update this page with further information as those details are set.

Pre-School Days
September through March, Special programs on the second Wednesday of each month 
focus on pre-school pre-emergent literacy skills and will include a story related to the theme of the day. Program times are 10 a.m., 11 a.m., Noon and 1 p.m. Book early by calling (318) 424-8660; programs fill fast!

Regional Autonomous Robotic Competitions (RARC) (Grades: 4th–12th)
Saturdays, November 4, February 24 and April  28
Open to all educators and students in the Ark-La-Tex region
These robotic competitions have been created and designed through a partnership between
Sci-Port, Bossier Parish Schools, Caddo Parish Schools and the Cyber Innovation Center and Bossier City. The three different competitions are interrelated, but students will learn and develop a variety of skills for the different challenges. National Chemistry Week Celebration (Grades: K8th)
4th 8th grades: Friday, October 27, 9 a.m.1 p.m.
Chemistry colors our world! Exploring the chemistry of dyes, pigments, and light during National Chemistry Week (NCW). NCW is a community-based annual event that unites American Chemical Society local sections, businesses, schools and individuals in communicating the importance of chemistry to our quality of life. Join local chemistry professors Dr. Wayne Gustavson and Dr. Tom Ticich as they help your students explore National Chemistry Week with this year's theme!

16th Annual High School Engineering Olympics (Grades: 9th12th)
Tuesday, February 20, 9:30 a.m.12:30 p.m.
Calling all high school engineering students! Go for the gold at Sci-Port's 16th Annual High School Engineering Olympics. Students will work with practicing engineers to complete engineering challenges designed by Sci-Port in different branches of engineering. Outstanding teams will receive recognition and awards. Limit one class of 25 students per school. Teams must register at least two weeks prior to February 20. Limited space is available; call now to reserve your spot.

Middle School Engineering Challenges (Grades: 6th8th)
February 2123, 9, 10 & 11 a.m.
Your middle school students can explore engineering during this year’s National Engineers Week. Each class will participate in designing and building an engineering project using their unique skills, and teams within your class will compete against each other. Please plan an hour timeslot for your class.

Get Physical! Physical Fitness Week (Grades: Grades: K–2nd)

Teacher Appreciation Week
May 7-11
Give Sci-Port a chance to thank you for all you! To show our appreciation, you and your immediate* family may come to our center for free. Everyone in your group will receive discounted IMAX® admission and a 20% discount at our Galaxy Café.
Plus, anytime that you visit Sci-Port during the 2017-2018 school year, your name will be added in to a drawing to win a Sci-Port Discovery Membership. The winner will be drawn on Friday, May 11 during Teacher Appreciation Week. This membership includes free admission for up to five people to Sci-Port all year long!
