IMAX Dome Theatre Films

Take a field trip to the outer reaches of space or the depths of the ocean with an IMAX® film! Sci-Port's IMAX® films are educational, entertaining and relevant to all grade levels (and teachers, too). Think about booking an IMAX® adventure when scheduling your field trip. School groups of 50 or more can schedule a film from our library. Films average 45 minutes in duration, and Louisiana GLEs are available for each film at www.sciport.org/resources.

To the Arctic

Hubble
Through the power of IMAX®, Hubble will enable movie-goers to journey through distant galaxies to explore the grandeur and mysteries of our celestial surroundings, and accompany space-walking astronauts as they attempt the most difficult and important tasks in NASA’s history. The film will offer an inspiring and unique look into the Hubble Space Telescope’s legacy and highlight its profound impact on the way we view the universe and ourselves. Narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, Hubble reunites the Space Station filmmaking team, led by Producer/Director Toni Myers. James Neihouse, Director of Photography, also doubles as the Astronaut crew trainer. Judy Carroll is Associate Producer, and Graeme Ferguson, Co-founder of IMAX and pioneer Producer of many IMAX space films, is Executive Producer. Hubble is an IMAX and Warner Bros. Pictures production, in cooperation with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Journey into Amazing Caves
Journey Into Amazing Caves tells the story of Nancy Aulenbach and Dr. Hazel Barton, who share a love for caves and cave exploration. Join these two accomplished cavers as they explore unusual caves, like ice caves in Greenland and underwater caves in the jungles of Mexico, looking for important clues about the Earth's past and microorganisms that inhabit its most extreme environments. On the giant screen, this unique story will transport viewers on an adventure to some of the most extraordinary environments on earth.

Lewis & Clark: Great Journey West
It was the dawn of a nation — a time before the American West became known as the frontier, and little was known about what lay within. Two captains, courageous in spirit and unyielding in their dedication to their mission, led 31 people, including one woman and her infant son, to the Pacific Ocean and back. Audiences will experience the danger and beauty of the unknown West as it unfolded before the eyes of Lewis and Clark.

Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon
Exploring the moon was humankind's most incredible journey. Now through the magic of IMAX®, you can take that giant leap for yourself. Presented and narrated by Tom Hanks, Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon will transport you to the lunar surface to walk alongside the 12 extraordinary astronauts who have been there to experience what they saw, heard, felt, thought and did. 

The Alps: Climb of Your Life
In 1966, John Harlin II died while attempting Europe's most difficult climb, the North Face of the Eiger in Switzerland. 40 years later, his son John Harlin III, an expert mountaineer and the editor of the American Alpine Journal, returns to attempt the same climb.

Tropical Rainforest
Tropical Rainforest is a global film which examines the long evolution of the rain forest, the rapid and recent destruction of this habitat as a consequence of human intervention, and the scientific efforts to understand the tropical rain forests even as they disappear. The film captures the incredible diversity of species which have evolved throughout the long history of tropical biology-insects, gaudy frogs, exotic plants and flowers. Species have formed interdependent relationships, all of which are dependent on the trees. With the loss of the forests, thousands of these species will become extinct before they can be discovered.
